Indie businesses in Pisa
A few cool small stores, coffee shops and bars in Pisa:
- De Coltelli; Easily the best gelateria, mham. Noce (nuts) is the way to go.
- Orzo Bruno; They brew their own beer. Go for the Montemagno.
- La 56 Strada; Movie bookstore that is just amazing.
- Fumettando; Comics store. Although it's not my thing, they say it's very good. I prefer the books for grownups.
- Numero 11; There are two, but the one on via Battichiodi only has organic food. The other one is for tourists.
- Dr Jazz; Mainly jazz jam sessions but also Blues. Closed during the summer because the owner has a club by the beach. He says, and I believe, that's the only time of the year he makes money.
- Gap Record Store; Record store that just sells vinyl. You have to admire the commitment of the owner.
I'll try to update this post as I find new places.
I don't have a TV!
Although I do watch the news and some other tv shows online, I managed to substitute the TV for a few websites with things much more interesting than what's usually on the air. Here's the list, hope it's useful for you as well.
Video
- Ted Talks
- Fora.tv
- Panorama BBC
- Book Tv
- Long Now Foundation
- Academic Earth
- MIT World
- MSRI Lectures
- Princeton UC
Audio
- The Reith Lectures on BBC Radio
- IT Conversations
- WNYC's RadioLab
- Pop!Casts
Note that even on the websites that have more technical classes such as Academic Earth and others, there are loads lighter talks that are really great even if you're tired and don't want to think. If you have more goodies like these leave a link on the comments, pleaseeee!
Chance of Rain?
What the hell do meteorologists mean when they say 20% chance of rain?
a) 20% probability of being raining all the time?
b) The probability of raining once is 20%?
c) At each moment there is a 20% probability of being rainy? (expected rain during 20% of the day)
Not to talk about the "feels like". It's not 27º feels like 28º. It's 27º feels like freakin' 45º inside my house. Although, when I put my head inside the freezer it feels like "a lot better".
