A few cool small stores, coffee shops and bars in Pisa:

• De Coltelli; Easily the best gelateria, mham. Noce (nuts) is the way to go.
• Orzo Bruno; They brew their own beer. Go for the Montemagno.
• La 56 Strada; Movie bookstore that is just amazing.
• Fumettando; Comics store. Although it's not my thing, they say it's very good. I prefer the books for grownups.
• Numero 11; There are two, but the one on via Battichiodi only has organic food. The other one is for tourists.
• Dr Jazz; Mainly jazz jam sessions but also Blues. Closed during the summer because the owner has a club by the beach. He says, and I believe, that's the only time of the year he makes money.
• Gap Record Store; Record store that just sells vinyl. You have to admire the commitment of the owner.

A pedido de muitas famílias, nomeadamente a minha, aqui vão algumas fotografias do departamento, do meu gabinete e uma surpresa para os fãs do falador por bips e ruídos favorito de toda a gente.

It's impressive the number of streets named after renowned scientists that exist here in Pisa. Notable examples are Via Enrico Fermi, Lungarno Antonio Pacinotti, Lungarno Leonardo Fibonacci and, the city most well known son, Galileo Galilei who has an airport, a street and a square.

The reason for this is the Università di Pisa, together with the Scuola Normale Superiore and the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies. The university exists, in one form or the other, since the 11th century and has many notable alumni.

Para enquadrar um bocadinho, só para o caso do estimado leitor (sim, tu aí) não saber o que eu faço, escrevo esta pequena introdução a este blog.

Nos últimos anos estive a trabalhar na Critical Software. Primeiro em Coimbra e depois em Lisboa. Penso que sempre esteve nos meus planos fazer um doutoramento mas queria esperar algum tempo e ganhar alguma experiência profissional (isto soa tão dork).

No ano passado resolvi sair da Critical e voltar a estudar. Saí com "alguns" meses de antecedência para viajar e ter a cabeça descansada na altura de começar. Também fiz alguns trabalhos freelance entretanto porque o dinheiro é ligeiramente necessário para algumas coisas.

Estou no final da minha segunda semana em Itália. Vivo na pequena e bonita cidade de Pisa na Toscana. Achei que Pisa era uma excelente opção como sitio para estudar porque a universidade, particularmente na minha área da informática, é muito boa. Devo também confessar que não me apetecia ir para um sítio onde o sol nunca brilha. Além disso, Pisa é uma cidade perfeita para se estudar. Tem o tamanho certo, segura, animada e pode-se ir a qualquer lado de bicla.
